Knowing God in Creation

Have you ever had a part of creation call to you? That still small voice inviting you to take a closer look to discover God’s beauty, His truth, and His goodness. I always have and believe every aspect of creation carries God’s presence. A creation inviting us to connect with with Him.

He is the Creator of all things: the earth, the heavens, the sea, and everything they contain.

Acts 14:15b TPT

Maybe you encounter God through the ocean. Those relentless and rhythmic waves, whispering and thundering praise. What about the wind? A cool refreshing breeze, or a powerful gust, unsure of where it comes from or where it is going. Ever been swept up listening to the song of a bird? Its sweet notes filling the air, declaring the goodness of God and how He meets all its needs. Or maybe you see Him in the growing of a garden. The seeds, planting, growth, weeds, multiplication, and fruitfulness.

Think about what elements of creation draw you into something more. When was the last time you saw God is His creation? What was He showing you? What was He revealing?

Scripture is filled with references to God and His creation.

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Romans 1:20 NLT

Hiking in the mountains is my favourite place to meet with God. Even now I can close my eyes, take a deep breath and savour the things I have tasted and seen from days long ago. I remember the stunning views, the sweet smells, the sounds, and the exhilaration of discovery. So many hidden treasures all leading me into awe, wonder, and delight!

The pictures in this blog are from a stunning hike Lee and I did this past year in Washington State. The Heather-Maple Pass Loop is a 7.2 mile loop with a diversity of terrain and captivating views. On a cool September morning and we visited Lake Ann, wetting our appetite with a view of the ridge we would be hiking up to in a few hours.

As we emerged from the forest we were greeted with an absolutely enchanting sea of clouds which filled the valley. I love how the masterpiece of creation is alive, constantly changing and always revealing something. Oh the vastness of the sky and the mystery hidden in the valley.

I love how small I feel in the mountains, and how big God feels around me. I love the panoramic views when you reach the summit; the reward of pushing through one step at a time; the freedom I feel in these places, and how my soul is nurtured. I love the satisfaction that comes after arriving back to the van, physically tired yet energized at the same time.

I love meeting God in the mountains. Where is God inviting you to meet Him? Where does He want to reveal himself to you through creation? Take some time to listen by scheduling a date to meet with God. Maybe it is in your backyard, a local park, a trip to some nearby water, a trip to the aquarium, or simply sitting with a potted plant! He is in it all, and wants to reveal Himself to you!
