Jehovah Shammah - The Lord is There
The Names of God
Jehovah Shammah - The Lord is There
Occurring only once in the Bible, the prophet Ezekiel used Jehovah Shammah to describe God’s presence in the new Jerusalem. The same city depicted by John in the book Revelation. Both instances are to give us hope, that one day God will dwell with us, in his full presence forever.
“And the name of the city from that time on will be: the Lord is there.” - Ezekiel 48:35 NIV
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. - Revelation 21:3 NIV
While the previous two verses seem to refer to God’s physical presence, the following Psalm speaks of God’s omnipresence, or spiritual presence being everywhere, all the time. We can still rejoice knowing God is “there” with us now, and will be with us “there” in his full glory when his dwelling place permanently becomes Earth.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. - Psalm 139:7-8 NIV
How is God revealing His presence to you? What does it look like to hear his voice? He is as close to you as your breath is this very moment.
May He reveal himself to you as Jehovah Shammah today. Blessing you to encounter more of God each and every day.
